Creating an Assessment
Overview
Assessments are the individual events — tests, quizzes, projects, or any scored task — that you use to gather evidence of student mastery. Each assessment belongs to a course and can be linked to one or more of that course’s standards. Once created, the assessment appears in the gradebook where you can record a rating for each student on each linked standard.
Prerequisites
Your course needs at least one standard assigned before you can link assessments to standards. If you have not done that yet, see Assigning Standards to a Course.
Steps
- Open the course you want to add an assessment to.
- Click Assessments in the course navigation.
- Click Create Assessments.
- In the Name field, enter a name for the assessment. This field is required.
- Optionally fill in Description and Date for the assessment.
- In the Standards field, select one or more standards from the course to link to this assessment.
Only standards already assigned to this course appear in the list. Ratings entered in the gradebook for this assessment will count toward mastery scores for each linked standard.
-
To add more assessments in the same batch, click Add Another Assessment and fill in each new row.
-
Click Create Assessments (the button shows the count of assessments you are about to create).
-
If this is the first assessment in the course, a Lock Rating Scale? confirmation appears. Review it and click Create Assessments to confirm.
Creating the first assessment locks the rating scale for the course. Rating values and their order cannot be changed after this point — only names and descriptions can be updated. Make sure your rating scale is finalized before continuing.
- If your course is part of a linked group, AstraGrade will ask whether to create the same assessments in the other linked courses. Select the courses to include and confirm.
