Importing Standards via CSV

Overview

The CSV import lets you add up to 500 standards to your library in one step. Use it when you have an existing spreadsheet of standards, or when your state or district publishes a downloadable standards document. This article covers preparing your file, running the import, and understanding what happens when rows are skipped.

Preparing your CSV file

Your CSV file must have at least a code column and a name column. A description column is optional. The column headers do not need to match any specific name — you will map them during the import.

FieldRequiredMax lengthNotes
CodeYes50 charactersMust be unique within your library
NameYes255 charactersThe display name of the standard
DescriptionNo1,000 charactersAdditional context for the standard

Many state education agencies publish standards as downloadable spreadsheets. Check your state’s department of education website before building a CSV from scratch.

Running the import

  1. Click Standards Library in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Bulk Create Standards.
  3. Click Upload CSV and select your file.
  4. In the column mapper that appears, match each of your CSV columns to Code, Name, or Description. Columns you do not map are ignored.
  5. Review the imported rows in the table. If any rows look wrong, close the mapper, correct your CSV file, and re-upload.
  6. If you want the imported standards placed inside a folder, select one from the Destination Folder dropdown.
  7. Click Import Standards.

AstraGrade reports how many standards were created and how many were skipped.

Understanding skipped standards

AstraGrade skips any row whose code already exists in your library. Skipped rows are counted in the import summary but are not modified — your existing standards are never overwritten by an import.

If your summary shows skipped standards you expected to create:

The 500-standard limit applies per import session. For larger sets, split your CSV into multiple files and run the import multiple times.
