Linking Courses

Overview

Linking connects two or more courses so that their standards, assessments, and rating scale stay in sync automatically. Any change made in one linked course — adding a standard, creating an assessment, editing the rating scale — propagates to the other courses in the group. Student rosters are not shared; each course keeps its own enrollment.

Linked courses are most useful when you teach multiple sections of the same class and want one consistent set of assessments without manually updating each course.

Prerequisites

You must have at least one existing course to create a linked copy from. See Creating Your First Course.

Creating a linked course

Linked courses are created through the copy flow. You enable linking at the time of copying.

  1. Click Courses in the left sidebar.
  2. Hover over the course card you want to use as the source. A copy icon appears in the top-right corner of the card.
  3. Click the copy icon.
  4. Enter a Course Name for the new course.
  5. Enter an optional Description.
  6. Check the Link courses checkbox.
  7. Click Copy Course. The new course appears in your course list with a link icon next to its name, indicating it belongs to a linked group.

The linked copy starts with all the same standards and rating scale as the source. From this point forward, changes to standards, assessments, or the rating scale in either course will prompt you to choose which linked courses should receive the update.

Adding standards or assessments to a linked course

When you add a standard or create an assessment in a linked course, AstraGrade asks how far the change should reach.

Unlinking a course

Unlinking removes a course from the sync group. The course keeps all its existing standards and assessments, but future changes are no longer synced with the rest of the group.

  1. Open the course you want to unlink.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Scroll to the Linked Courses section.
  4. Click Unlink This Course.
  5. Confirm the action in the dialog that appears.

Unlinking is permanent. To re-link a course, you would need to copy it again with the Link courses option enabled.
