Copying a Course
Overview
Copying a course creates a new course with the same standards, rating scale, and proficiency calculation settings as the original. Student rosters and assessment data are not carried over. Copying is useful when you teach the same curriculum each year or across multiple class periods and don’t want to rebuild your setup from scratch.
Steps
- Click Courses in the left sidebar.
- Hover over the course card you want to copy. A copy icon appears in the top-right corner of the card.
- Click the copy icon.
- Enter a Course Name for the new course. AstraGrade pre-fills it as “Copy of [original name]” — edit it to whatever fits.
- Enter an optional Description.
- If you want the new course to stay in sync with the original, check the Link courses checkbox. See Linking Courses for details on what syncing includes.
- Click Copy Course. The new course appears in your course list, ready for students and assessments.
Copying does not carry over student enrollments or assessment scores. You’ll need to enroll students in the copied course before you can record any ratings.
Copy a course at the start of each school year to preserve your standards and rating scale. You get a clean gradebook without losing the setup work from the previous year.
